IMPROVING YOUR LIFESTYLE

Quick & Simple Steps to Improve your Living Space & Well-being

Adding plants into your home and indoor environment not only improves the indoor aesthetic, it also has great health benefits. Plants filter the air and help to contribute towards removing dangerous compounds from fuels, furnishings and clothing.

A short list of the benefits of plants in rooms

  • Purify the air

  • Lowering risk of illnesses

  • Enhancing concentration and memory

  • Create a sense of calm and ease

  • Reduce fatigue

  • Decrease anxiety, stress and depression

  • Increase productivity

  • Promotes creativity

The lung institute recommends the following plants:

  • Living Room- Chinese evergreens & Areca Palm

  • Bedroom- Gerbera Daisies & snake plant

  • Any room- Money plant

There has been various studies done and none show any negative outcomes of having plants indoors.

Plants have been found to improve and boost mood. A study showed that caring for plants increases compassion and creates a sense of calmness. Ultimately resulting in more optimism a sense of stability and creating a positive and calm energy.

I personally keep a Philodendron plant. I liked the height of the plant and the texture of the leaves. Its also super easy to keep alive, which is perfect for anyone whose starting out with plants in your room. It means you can go a few days to a week without watering, so perfect you forget to water it or simply go out of down for a while.

Ferns have a nice aesthetic but are much harder to keep alive, if not watered every day they will just die instantly, they’re very demanding. So I would recommend starting out with a plant that requires less attention.

I also like to keep some flowers in my room as source of colour and freshness. During the winter it can get a bit depressing the lack of colour and flowers that are around. I currently have some daisies in my room, which have been in my vase for nearly two weeks now, and they’re still in great shape.

Flowers can be a really nice treat or little splurge, tulips are in season at the moment and its really rewarding to watch and wait for them to bloom. A cheaper alternative would be daffodils, which you can pick up for £1.

Candles have such a great benefit and I personally have a whole draw full. We are all guilty of spending so much time looking at our phones or laptops; the harsh light can irritate our eyes and strain them. Something as simple as just lighting a few candles and turning out the lights will not only relax you but it will also give your eyes a break. And for those who think candles are ‘girly’ and not needed here are a list of the benefits that candles are known to help.

Insomnia

Lighting a clary sage candle can be found to help suffers from insomnia be lulled to sleep. Roman chamomile scent is also recommended to reduce restlessness.

Muscle Tension and Aches

Peppermint infused candles can assist with headaches, muscle pain or even problems with digestion.

Increase Energy

Orange and cinnamon scented candles have been found to increase energy.

Allergies and Infections

Eucalyptus aroma is said to be helpful when relieving allergies or infections. It can also be found to help fight fatigue or dizziness due to its scent.

Reducing Stress

Maintaining Focus

For those who work long hours, citrus scented candles could help maintain a clear focus. Other scents such as basil, thyme and cypress also work to encourage thought and reflection.

If you’re still not convinced, Scandinavians burn more candles than any other nation, and also the happiest people in the world. Candles help to create a cosy, relaxing and intimate vibe. Personally whenever I have been over at a friends house and candles have been lit I instantly feel more at ease and calm. Candles can be a great way to relax and treat yourself.
