LEAKE STREET TUNNEL
Leake Street tunnel is a hidden treasure for all graffiti and street art lovers. It is commonly just referred to as Londons Graffiti Tunnel due to its vast and open nature to allow anyone to add to the art that graces its wall.
We personally stumbled upon this place by accident on our way to House of Vans, which is just above the tunnel and can be accessed by a set of stairs at one end of the tunnel where it comes out to Lower Marsh. It's a nice change to come and find a hidden piece of culture hidden under Waterloo. How many of the thousands of people that commute via Waterloo everyday have any clue about this treasure?
They constantly change it up, with new graffiti artists coming up with an eye catching design. Originally Banksy was one of the first people to decorate the walls. In 2008 he held the 'Cans Festival'. He created a festival allowing artists to come and freely stencil and showcase their talents on the wall.
Next time you're in the area try to see if you can find this hidden little gem!
