MISREPRESENTATION OF MILLENNIALS
Millennials are seen as the unwanted children of society. Millennials have been given a reputation by older generations and also younger generations as to harbour the blame for all mistakes and problems. We’re known for being stupid, making bad choices, been given the reputation that we have no regard for social awareness, careless with money and all round use of the butt of the joke.
However, Millennials were the generation who grew up at a turning point with technology. It went from the odd cool kid using a Sony Ericsson sending songs via bluetooth on the back of a bus, to within a few years all millennials using blackberry messenger to converse. Generations forget that a millennials childhood did involve VCRs, VHS, and Gameboys. We weren’t always glued to technology, we were just born into a time where great developments were being made in technology and as a result they played a large part of our growing up.
Today there are constantly articles swimming around poking fun at millennials, from buzz feeds ‘20 things millennials just won’t understand’ to the down right offensive articles from VICE, commenting upon millennials drug and alcohol abuse.
It would be so easy for us to turn around and make our comments on the failures on generation Z and baby boomers, yet we don’t. We’re smart enough to understand part of growing up is learning for yourself what’s right and what’s wrong, what works and what doesn’t.
So to all generations, please stop shitting on us. We do not have more money than you (a theory from generation Z), we do not have drug or alcohol problems, and we are all not extra. Millennials deserve more respect as we are the current future, that will help shape the world we live in. Our choices reflect and shape the market.
Pink Mill is a brand created by millennials for millennials, whilst also being inclusive to all generations. We believe in inclusivity, there’s power in numbers, and when we say power we don’t mean mad drunk Donald Trump as president power. We mean relaxed, calm, relatable in an approachable way.
